![]() ![]() There are many differences between the two schools, but one of the most notable is that Cal Poly Pomona is a polytechnic university while Cal Poly SLO is not. The family asks that any gifts or contributions be made in Schwartz’s memory to San Luis Obispo’s many local charities and non-profit organizations, including the San Luis Obispo Children’s Museum, the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art, Central Coast Chapter of Camp Fire, Santa Lucia Council Boy Scouts, American Institute of Architects, the Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County, the League of Women’s Voters and to the City of San Luis Obispo, Kenneth and Martha Schwartz Mission Plaza Trust Fund. Cal Poly SLO has an enrollment of 20,000 students while Cal Poly Pomona has an enrollment of 24,000 students. Schwartz’s family will announce its plans for a memorial service in the near future. Schwartz’s wife and high school sweetheart Martha passed in 2004. He was a loving and generous husband to Martha, father to daughter Lorraine Riggio Schwartz and son Jan Schwartz, grandfather to five grandsons and one granddaughter, and great-grandfather to seven great-grand children. Ken was also known as a dedicated family man. He was honored as The Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 1992.
